The University Library Media Center provides students and teachers at the University of Freiburg with a wide range of media courses, technology, and productions.

Media Archive
22,000 video cassettes and DVDs
17,000 audio recordings on cassette and CD (available for use only in the UB 1)

Usage
All Freiburg University Library users with a valid library card may use CDs and cassettes. For copyright reasons, access to video cassettes and DVDs is reserved solely for members of Freiburg University (students and teachers). Short-term loans are only allowed for faculty of the University of Freiburg.

AV Media Service with Individual and Group Work Spaces
There are 10 individual and group work spaces available for viewing videos and DVDs. Registration is not required.

AV Practice Rooms
The Media Center provides seminars and lectures in the AV practice room in the UB 2, in which audiovisual and multimedia applications can be used. Reservations can be made by telephone at 203-3935.





Video Studio
The media center has a video studio equipped with a blue screen, spotlight system, and variable lighting technology. This room may be used for filming interviews, presentations, or individual scenes for video productions. The studio also hosts camera workshops and lighting seminars.

Recording Studio
The studio is equipped with a soundproof booth in which independent audio productions and sound sequences for video productions can be produced. Four workstations are available for post-production and mastering audio recordings.

Multimedia Workstations
On special multimedia PCs the necessary hardware and software is available for integrating audio-visual elements in multimedia environments. Depending on the individual workstation, each may have a slide scanner, flatbed scanner, or mini-disc recorder. The software programs installed on the PCs include Adobe Director, Adobe Flash, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Photoshop.

Video Cameras
The Media Center provides high-definition video cameras, mixers, microphones, tripods, and lighting equipment for academic projects and offers assistance with post-production in digital video editing suites. Special workshops are offered on the cinematic and technical handling of video cameras.

Video Editing Suites
The Media Center has seven video editing suites for the digital processing of video tapes (VHS, S-VHS, DVD, Mini DV, DVCAM, HD). The Center provides tutorials on the use of the editing suites, and is also the place to go with any questions during the editing process. 





Video Conferencing
The Media Center offers a room specially equipped for video conferencing.

Audio Recording Devices
MP3 recorders are available for digital sound recordings.

Media Production
The Media Center records lectures as video or audio recordings and makes them available on the internet as podcasts, streams, or downloads. Likewise, university events can be broadcast live in auditoriums or online.

Tri-Media Journalism
Learn to present interesting topics related to university studies on television, radio and the internet:

  • Uni-TV
    uni.tv offers students from all disciplines of the possibility to gain practical experience in television journalism and the production of audio-visual media.
    The TV magazine alma* is shown on regional television and online and is also available as a podcast.
  • Uni-Radio
    Uni-Radio  provides practical skills in radio journalism, from conducting a survey to producing a live broadcast. Students' contributions can be heard around the clock on 88.4 echoFM or online as a live stream or podcast.

  • Uni-Online
    Web journalism in practice. Students create articles for the student newsletter.
    The newsletter provides information about important news, innovative developments, and interesting events at the University of Freiburg
