Corona pandemic

Current information for users of the University Library and the campus libraries (Updated: 2022-01-19)

LATEST NEWS: Access with FFP2 mask only (or a comparable standard, especially KN95, N95, KF94, KF99)

According to the new version of the CoronaVO of the state of Baden-Württemberg as of 27.12.2021, access to the University Library and the campus libraries is only permitted with an FFP2 (or comparable) mask. Medical masks are no longer sufficient. This also applies in particular to borrowing or returning media. Please be prepared for this the next time you visit the University Library and the campus libraries and carry a respiratory mask with the above standards.

3G credentials in the University Library and the campus libraries

The current CoronaVO of the State of Baden-Württemberg permits the use of reading rooms, parlatorium and campus libraries only for vaccinated, recovered or tested users.  One of the following proof must be presented:

  • A complete proof of vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 (last vaccination at least 14 days ago)
  • or an official proof of convalescence (an illness with Covid-19 dates back maximum 6 months ago)
  • or a certificate of a daily updated (not older than 24 hours) negative corona antigen-test from an official provider (test centre, doctor's practice, etc.) or of a negative PCR test (not older than 48 hours)

    PLEASE NOTE: In the warning and alert stage, non-immunised users who do not belong to the University of Freiburg, or another university must submit a negative PCR test (not older than 48 hours).

Borrowing

Loans are available and can be returned Mon–Fri 8 am–8 pm, Sat 10 am – 6 pm (last admission: 7.30 pm, Sat 5.30pm).

Please note that only a limited number of people may enter the lending area. Therefore, please limit your stay to the minimum necessary. Access does not entitle you to use the reading rooms!

Access to the reading room and the Parlatorium

Students and staff of the University of Freiburg can use  the UB's study areas in the reading room and the Parlatorium without fixed time slots Mon–Fri from 7 to 24 hrs and Sat–Sun 8 to 24 hrs. Registration takes place directly on site.
Mon–Fri from 5.30 p.m. and Sat–Sun and all day on public holidays, all users of the UB with a library card can access the reading room and the Parlatorium.
The special reading room is open Mon–Fri 9–12 and 14–17 only after prior registration. Further information

Media Centre

Equipment issue and use of the editing workstations is possible again Mon-Fri 10-12 and 13-17 o'clock.
The confirmation of reservation must be presented at the media centre.

Access to the campus libraries

Some of the specialist libraries can be used by students and staff of the University of Freiburg without prior registration. Other subject libraries can be visited after prior registration via e-mail or telephone reservation.

In addition to the UB, ordered media can also be borrowed from the campus libraries of the Technische Fakultät and the Wirtschaftswissenschaften. For further information, please visit the websites of the two campus libraries

Access to the library

Entrance and exit are separate. Access is via Platz der Universität 2 (revolving door east). The exit is via Milchstraße (revolving door west).

Please note that access to the reading room and the Parlatorium is only possible on presentation of a proof of vaccination or recovery or a negative corona test. Please have the relevant proof - preferably in digital form - ready at the entrance.

Behaviour in the building

  • Please observe the usual spacing rules.
  • It is mandatory to wear a FFP2 mask (or a comparable standard, especially KN95, N95, KF94, KF99).
    For persons who are exempted from the obligation to wear a mask by a medical certificate, the cordoned-off area in reading room 1 behind the lifts is provided. If you belong to this group of people, please use this area exclusively.
    We would also like to point out that members of this group of people are also obliged to submit the medical certificate to the university coordination office without being asked to do so, at koordinierungsstelle@zv.uni-freiburg.de. The certificate must also be shown to the staff of the UB on request.

Campus delivery services and Interlibrary Loans

Scan service

During the restrictions in the University Library and in the campus libraries caused by the Corona pandemic, it is possible for members of the University of Freiburg to order articles from journals and collective works from the holdings of the UB and the campus libraries free of charge. During the restrictions in the University Library and in the campus libraries caused by the Corona pandemic, it is possible for members of the University of Freiburg to get loanable books from our stock by mail  for a fee. Postal service
