Open access funding
The Rectorate, all faculties and the University Library have agreed on a new university-wide cost allocation model for all products associated with publication costs. As a result, the maximum funding limit for grants from the University of Freiburg's publication fund will be abolished as of 1 January 2026. From this date onwards, publication costs for articles in pure open access journals (gold open access journals) will be pre-financed in full by the University Library. In some faculties, authors may be partially charged for the costs. If in doubt, please check with your faculty. Additional fees such as page or colour charges will continue to be financed decentrally, i.e. not by the University Library.
