Diamond Open Access

The University Library supports researchers in implementing the principles of Open Science and Open Access. With the FreiJournals platform and the hosting of various open-source software solutions, it provides researchers at the University of Freiburg with open access publication infrastructures.

Diamond Open Access describes mainly scholarly-led models of open access publishing that are publicly or non-commercially funded and can, therefore, operate without publication fees for authors. The infrastructural and organizational basis for diamond open access publishing services is often provided by universities.
The University of Freiburg supports the commitment to such publication infrastructures tailored to the needs of researchers, which are operated by the University Library, among others.

FreiJournals

FreiJournals enables all members of the University of Freiburg to manage, publish and customize their open access journals. The entire publication process (submission, peer review, editing, publication, metadata delivery, archiving) can be organized using the open-source software solution Open Journal Systems (OJS). An individual view of the journals is generated using the Open Journal Viewer (OJV) developed by the University Library Freiburg.

Open Encyclopedia System (OES)

The open-source software solution Open Encyclopedia System (OES)) offers editors and authors an individually configurable platform for the creation and continuous updating of academic online reference works. The interdisciplinary online encyclopedia Compendium heroicum developed by the Freiburg Collaborative Research Centre 948 "Heroes - Heroizations - Heroisms", for example, is based on OES.
