Manuscripts

Users can view the majority of the 1,500 or so manuscripts from the 7th to 20th centuries owned by the University Library in their browser.

Manuscript collection

The manuscript collection mainly consists of functional manuscripts: theological and canonistic manuscripts (both individual and composite), liturgical books, collections of sermons and legends, bibles and other codices with Roman law, philosophical, humanistic, medical and scientific texts.

Alongside original university collections, a huge amount of our holdings have come into our possession via 19th century scholars’ libraries and through secularisation – especially of the region’s abbeys and monasteries.
