Spanish comedias

Digitising the collection of Spanish plays

The collection

The University Library owns an extensive collection of Spanish plays, which it received through donations from Frankfurt-based private scholar Adolf Schaeffer and Freiburg-based Romance studies scholar Gottfried Baist (1853–1920) in the early 20th century.

In addition, University Library Freiburg owns a large number of early editions (pre-1800) and early multi-volume series. The shortlist compiled by Edwin Stark in 2004 alone includes around 2,400 plays in 3,750 editions.
