Anatomical literature and plates

The former textbook collection of the Institute of Anatomy

We digitize rare anatomical literature and plates of the 17th to 19th centuries. These are textbooks, illustrations and notes which reflect the contents of the former textbook collection of the Anatomical Institute of the University. In addition, they vividly document the contemporary, important focal points of research.

The collection comprises around 60 text volumes, plus around 80 plate volumes. The authors include renowned physicians, anatomists, physiologists, zoologists and palaeontologists such as Friedrich Tiedemann, Christian Heinrich Pander and Friedrich Arnold. The collection contains not only works that investigate the anatomy of humans, but also deals with the anatomical structure of animals.

With the digitisation of this historically significant literature, the collection will on the one hand become more easily accessible for teaching and research purposes and thus easier to use.
