Media literacy is the ability to use media according to one's own needs and purposes and to deal with them responsibly. This applies to both consumption and production.
The term media literacy comprises the four pillars of media criticism, media studies, media use and media design.
Media literacy, along with management competence, communication competence, digital literacy and foreign language competence, are among the central areas of competence that are in demand on the labour market in addition to academic expertise.
The UB Media Centre is unique in Germany with this concept. Our task and our goal is to promote media literacy throughout the University of Freiburg.
Complete your Master's degree with a documentary film, create an information video on how to use the lockers in the library or gain journalistic media experience for a career in broadcasting. The Media Centre at Freiburg University Library supports students with studios, loan equipment, training courses and advice on projects.
You have a media project, but you are not quite sure what the result should look like, what the message of the whole thing should be and how best to make it? We can advise you on the concept and implementation.
Are you being asked for interviews by television, radio, online platforms or print media? We explain to you what you need to bear in mind when in contact with the media and do media training with you.
